Meyer & Meyer wins 2011 Eco Performance Award
Osnabrück (Germany)-based textile logistics specialist and DTL shareholder Meyer & Meyer has been given the 2011 Eco Performance Award 2011.
The prize, which comes with a sum of €10,000, is awarded annually by the chair of logistics management at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) and the organisation DKV Euro Service. Michael Meyer, the CEO of company shareholder Meyer & Meyer, has confirmed that the prize money will be divided equally between the firm’s in-house crèche and an external sustainability project.
The logistics service provider won over the jury in the “large company” category on the basis of its “comprehensive sustainability policy”.
Special attention was paid in this respect to measures designed to ensure the efficient generation and use of energy. The company’s three solar energy plants generate up to 328,000 kW of electricity per year, corresponding to the consumption of 100 individual family homes. A fourth plant came online in June of this year.
Meyer & Meyer’s site in Berlin also operates two electrically powered trucks, a factor likewise taken into account by the jury. The initiative, which is designed to ensure low-noise, CO2-neutral local deliveries within Berlin city centre, is being subsidised by the German Federal Ministry of Transport. Its aim is to examine the long-term deployment possibilities for electrically driven vehicles in innercity logistics operations.
